Award-winning Carlton Water Main Renewal brings positive community outcomes22 Dec 2021
It was a strong playing field at this years’ 2021 AIPM Project Management Achievement Awards (PMAAs) but we are elated to win for our M205 Carlton Water Main Renewal project.
The PMAAs are designed to promote and recognise outstanding achievements in program and project leadership across Australia.
Alongside our delivery partner, Jaydo, we claimed the Small Project Award at the state level, for our work on the M205 Carlton Water Main Renewal project (Canning St, Carlton).
The award celebrates our efforts in achieving positive outcomes for the community while also successfully meeting the technical challenges of the project.
The works involved installing 2.3km of new pipe along Canning Street, to replace the 140-year-old pipeline.
During the construction, it was vital for us to minimise disruption to locals and to provide a way for them to ask questions or share their concerns. To achieve this, we set up a Community Reference Group (CRG) comprised of residents, traders, community groups and stakeholders.
Working with the CRG, we prevented potential delays, supported cost-efficient productivity and enhanced relationships.
We even identified and completed new community projects to thank the locals for their patience while we completed our works.
With support from Melbourne and Yarra councils, we focused on urban greening, sustainable design, and access to water. We reinstated the road with clear line markings, improved bicycle lanes, planted 350 street trees and installed water fountains and bike hoops.
Completed in 2020, the newly installed Canning St pipeline also ensures a safe and secure water supply for Carlton, Carlton North and the inner city for years to come.
The project highlights how great outcomes can be achieved for both communities and the construction industry through working together to identify common interests.
The award acknowledges all the hard work of our team and our partner, Jaydo.
As winners of the PMAAs at a state level, we are excited to progress to the national awards to be announced in early 2022.
